           Standard Polish

Are you looking for a fancy bird ?!  Big crest! Pretty and lays but rarely goes broody!?  The Polish might be for you!

The Polish or Poland is a European breed of Chicken. Known for its crest of feathers. The oldest accounts of these birds come from the Netherlands, Their exact origins are however unknown. They are adorned with large crests that nearly cover the entirety of the head. This crest limits their vision, and as a result can affect their temperament. Thus, though normally tame, they may be timid and easily frightened. Polish chickens are bred primarily as a show bird, but were originally productive egg layers. Accordingly, Polish rarely go broody and are noted for their white eggs. There are bearded, non-bearded and CAN come in the frizzle variety and we  raise the frizzled Polish as well. Polish come in Bantam Size & Standard Size, We raise the Standard size.

Here's some fact's about Polish you should know!

#1 Awesome very productive layers of white eggs, If Standard they lay a very large white egg if they are not from crappy hatchery stock ours are from great breeder quality Stock!

#2 Won't go broody on you! Don't want a hen sitting around all the time grumping ? Not these!

#3 Not a good meat type bird as it takes them a bit to get to their full mature weight which they don't reach till nearly laying age

#4 Do better penned instead of free range.

#5 Standard weights at maturity are males-5 lbs. and hens-4 lbs

#6 Come in Bantam & Standard Size

#7  Can carry a Frizzled Gene, We have both!

#8 Can have a beard under the chin but there is also Non bearded types as well.

#9 Very showy! If you interested in Fancies, entering the local fair with these is fun!

#10 May require trimming of the crest to see from time to time

Our polish are unsexed as it is very hard to sex Polish chickens till they are dang near grown.  Our Chicks are $5 each Must contact to see what is available. We don't claim our birds to be show quality as everyone knows you must cull hard and select  hard to get correct birds with correct lacing we have just started in Buff Laced Polish and we are constantly working to  improve our lacing on our birds.

            Showgirl's
These are Bantam Showgirls!
If you like a unique looking chicken, Showgirls may be the breed for you. Showgirls are a recent creation, becoming increasingly popular in the last ten years or so. They are generally the result of crossing Transylvanian Naked Necks / Turkens to Silkies. The Turken is used in the first generation to incorporate the incompletely dominant Naked Neck gene into the breeding program, then for multiple generations continue by crossing the Naked Necked chicks back to Silkies to improve type. The goal is usually a bird that is essentially a Silkie but with a naked neck (and perhaps with bowties and/or beards).

Like Silkies, the Showgirl hens are very broody and exceptional mothers, and they are often used to hatch the eggs of other breeds. Showgirl females are usually very calm, sweet and gentle birds, they usually make excellent pets, especially for children. Because of their gentle nature Showgirls may not do well in mixed flocks with breeds that have a more aggressive temperament. Their silkied feathers make them vulnerable to extreme cold, especially in wet weather, the feathered feet also require some care. They generally are not very predator aware, do not do well free ranging, and should be kept in a fenced in area. Like Silkies they are usually five toed, dark skinned, and have a walnut comb. They come in many colours, white probably being the most popular.

       Blue/Black/Splash Copper Marans
These gorgeous white skinned birds  lay LARGE chocolate brown eggs and big bodies make them wonderful dual purpose birds!
The blue colored varieties have existed in the Marans breed since its origins, The Blue gene is a dominant gene with variable penetration that dilutes black pigment, when present in either the homozygous Bl/Bl, or the heterozygous Bl/bl+ states. In the heterozygous state, Bl/bl+ dilutes black to a bluish/gray color, this blue color produces a variety of shades in the plumage, ranging from ‘pigeon egg blue’ to a dark ‘navy blue’, often with some blackish feathers scattered here and there, but has no effect on gold/red pigments. Homozygous Blue Bl/Bl creates an even greater dilution effect, producing a Splashed White (Splash) bird. This plumage is white with the odd blue feather; it is known in Europe as “dirty White” This is very different from both the Dominant White and the Recessive White, both of which have the effect of converting black to white.

It is important to understand that:
Blue does not breed true but gives the following results,
A Blue to Blue, Bl/bl+ X Bl/bl+ mating will give 25% Splash, Bl/Bl; 50% Blue, Bl/bl+ and 25% Black bl+/bl+
A Splash to Black, Bl/Bl X bl+/bl+ mating gives 100% Blue, Bl/bl+

A Blue to Black mating, bl+/bl+ X Bl/bl+, gives 50% each Blue, Bl/bl+ and Black bl+/bl+.
Blue should not be confused with recessive Lavender, which dilutes both black and red, and is true breeding. Lavender dilutes black to a "pearl gray color" producing a very uniform plumage colour. The  "pearl-gray color" is not found in Marans.
The genome of the heterozygous Blue Marans cock is E/E S/S Ml/Ml Bl/bl+ Id/Id W/W Pti-1/Pti-1 and that of the hen is E/E S/- Ml/Ml Bl/bl+ Id/- W/W Pti-1/Pti-1.
The varieties based on the Extended Black allele may mask all other allele in the series.

The Blue Hen
The Genetic Equation
This blue color is under the influence of a dilution factor, bleached from the color black.
Truly a beautiful bird!

The color comes in different varieties but the egg color is the most important to the French.

So the French will appreciate us breeding them only if we can get the egg color with out any out crossing.

A Splash X Splash gives 100% Splash.

A Blue X Black gives 50% Black & 50 % Blue.

A Splash X Black gives 100% Blue.

A Splash X  Blue tends to give a lighter Blue.

A Black X Blue tends to give a darker Blue.
